Results versus Holland East Middle School on Tuesday, May 15 @Holland East Middle School

1 Singles-Dalton Goodwin(L)6-3(W)7-6(7-2)in 7 Point Tie Breaker(W)10-4 in 3rd Set Super Tie Breaker-After a slow start in set one where Dalton just struggled and his shots just weren’t going his way, he fought back and refused to go down in defeat twice in a row to his opponent. He fought back and got his swagger back, fending off shot after shot, and had a great combination of some aces, hard cross court winners, some overhead slam winners at the net, and some sheer out hustle plays and forced a ten point Super Tie Breaker and after jumping to an early lead Dalton made sure he never gave his lead up and got the tenth point first to secure a very hard earned victory in one of his best wins he’s had all year especially with this one since he had to come from behind to win this one!! Great Job Dalton!!

2 Singles-Reid Reimink(L)7-5(W)6-4(L)10-4 in 10 Point Super Tie Breaker-In the last match played for the day and many people still staying around to watch both Reid and his opponent in this 3 set Marathon Reid fought valiantly and gave a great effort in this one as well as his opponent did with many long vollies and great points won by each player but in the end Reid’s opponent was able to execute a few more winners in this one to win by the slimmest of margins in great tennis played by both of them!! Great effort Reid! Go get em next match!

3 Singles-Traiden Bethke-Traiden continues to raise eyebrows at 3 Singles as a 7th Grader with great tennis strokes and a very smooth swinging motion winning convincingly again in this match leaving no doubt in his opponents mind that he IS a Good Tennis Player and that his hard work pays off winning this one in quick fashion.

1 Doubles-Kevin Maas and Joey Rakipi-(W)6-2(W)6-2-Kevin and Joey continue their winning streak in this contest and despite losing a couple games each set they made sure that’s as far as it got and pulled away the rest of the way in each set to secure another “W” for WO White.

2 Doubles-Brady Bosma and Joe Mireles(W)6-0(W)6-0-Brady and Joe had the mindset of a bowling ball making the pins explode all over the place thinking strike! strike! strike! executing quality shot after shot in a quick efficient W for WO White. Great Job Brady and Joe!!

3 Doubles-Mason Jiang Kong and Nolan Zink(W)6-1(W)6-1-Mason and Nolan were able to outshoot and made more quality placed shots for clean winners in this one to get another hard earned W for WO White.Great Job Mason and Nolan!!

4 Doubles-Jackson Kuyers and Andrew Van Dyke(W)8-2-Despite dropping a couple games in this one Jackson and Andrew decided it was time to use the rear view mirror more and enjoyed the feeling of “running and gunning” with Jackson running down several baseline shots deep in the court and Andrew doing some concrete smashing action by the net to get another W for WO White.

5 Doubles-Nash Bosma and Evan Janetzke(W)8-2-Nash and Evan played very well in this one with Evan staying very consistent returning several deep baseline shots on the backhand and forehand side and Nash staying very consistent near the middle of the court getting several cross court winners to the left and to the right with both boys forcing their opponents to constantly move to try to return shots and having a very tough time winning points off them with their great ball placement and tiring them out with long vollies.

5 Singles-Roman Monhollon(W)8–1-Roman continues to improve and impress each match winning big in this one gaining more and more confidence with a mindset of “Hey Coach I can do this!!” and his athleticism of getting to shots some kids simply can’t get to Roman decides “I can make this shot coach!” and with Roman making more and more shots like those with hustling down shots is so exciting to watch as fans and as his coach!! Great Job Roman!!

6 Doubles-Liam Herweyer and Brody Ruby(W)8-0-Liam and Brody were able to breath a little easier in this one and not need a frantic nail biter finish this time and having a type of match that they both enjoyed winning big and winning points early and often in this one and enjoy the feeling of dominating which helps from a confidence standpoint as well!! Great Job Liam and Brody!!

7 Doubles-Mike Kleinbriel and Mason Roxbury(W)8-0-Mike and Mason continue their winning ways in this one with improved play and improved efforts getting more serves in and keeping more balls in play and outworked and outshot their opponents to get WO White another W! Great Job Mike and Mason!!

8 Doubles-Mathis Geren and Joe Weimer(L)8-2-Mathis and Joe continue to keep their streak going of at least winning some games in this match showing more signs of improvement despite not winning the match.Getting better is a process and as it gets further along that first W will be “there for the taking”.

6 Doubles-Nash Bosma and Brody Ruby(W)8-3 in 8 game proset with no ads**Nash and Brody did excellent together as partners for first time and were “worth the price of admission” in this match pulling away quickly and seeing their opponents fall further behind them “in their rear view mirror” getting a 8-3 W for WO White!!

West Ottawa Black vs. West Ottawa White
*** 1 Singles-Dalton Goodwin(L)6-1(W)7-5(L)6-3-Dalton played extremely tough with several long rallies and many unbelievable "get shots in this 3 setter that was high quality tennis fans were entertained watching despite final outcome.A rematch awaits later and I know you’ll be eager and ready to really “go after it” next time!! Great Job Dalton!!

2 Singles-Reid Reimink(W)6-1(W)6-4-Reid continues to  "scrap and fight"  with every opponent he's faced so far  with a mindset to win whatever it takes and Reid now extends his new winning streak to 6 matches. Great Job Reid!!

1 Doubles-Jackson Kuyers and Andrew Van Dyke(L)6-2(L)6-0-Jackson and Andrew had several great rallies with some aces mixed in by Jackson and some great kill shots at the net by Andrew but the other team played very well and made very few mistakes for a hard earned victory.Still a great effort by Jackson and Andrew!

2 Doubles-Mason Jiang Kong and Nolan Zink(W)6-2(W)6-3-Mason and Nolan played very well in this one winning a lot of points on the longer rallies keeping points alive and Mason hitting several hard ground strokes for winners the other team had a hard time getting a racket on and Nolan made several DEEP returns to the baseline the other team had to run back for and had a hard time returning.Great Job Mason and Nolan!!

3 Doubles-Kevin Maas and Joey Rakipi(W)6-2(W)6-3-Kevin and Joey had an "extra bounce in their step" moving up to 3 Doubles and raised their level of play and were super focused and refused to lose in this one winning in straight sets with Kevin "money  at the net" putting away shots with power and great placement and Joey ran down shot after shot at the baseline to extend rallies and force the other team to return more shots than they wanted to.Great Job Kevin and Joey!!

4 Doubles-Brady Bosma and Joe Mireles-(W)8-5-Brady and Joe have great attitudes and never complain where they are in the lineup, continue to play extremely hard, and never quit, and their effort was a Gold Medal 🥇 one AGAIN getting another W for WO White! Way to go Brady and Joe!!

5 Doubles-Nash Bosma and Evan Janetzke(W)8-2-Nash and Evan started slow in this one with it knotted at 2-2 but after a brief conversation with them on a changeover they were regrouped and refocused and re-energized and started played high quality tennis eliminating double faults, and made a huge positive change from "airmailing shots" to "pinpointing their shots" and keeping them in play.Great bounce back efforts Nash and Evan!!

6 Doubles-Brody Ruby and Liam Herweyer(W)8-6-Brody and Liam won a very exciting close match and in the last four games they played their level of focus and wanting to win points went "up a notch". Liam ran down several deep returns keeping points alive and Brody backed Liam up by making several key cross court winners from the middle of their court and placing his returns in "no mans land" where their opponents simply were not able to get to and get a racket on.Great "W" Brody and Liam to not get nervous and rattled but to remain calm and focused and executing great shots!!

7 Doubles-Mike Kleinbriel and Mason Roxbury(W)8-2-Mike and Mason were feeling the "blues" last match after losing 8-0 but they decided maybe their opponent needed to “feel the blues” in this one and they played this match with much more purpose and passion winning 8-2 and replaced that “deflated look”with an “inflated look” like the balloon full of helium once again!!  Great job Mike and Mason!!

8 Doubles-Mathis Geren and Joe Weimer(L)8-2-Geren and Joe continue to find ways to WIN some games in their  matches despite not winning the match and that isn’t what tennis is ALL about. I get more excited about kids who show a willingness to WANT to improve and truly get BETTER as tennis players and these two guys continue to do that EVERY practice and EVERY match!! Great job Geren and Mathis!! *** And in a couple other singles matches Randy and I ok’d together as coaches since they were short a player and we were missing a player Roman Monhollon(W)8–1 against one of Randy’s players and later on I asked Traiden if he’d be willing to play Roman on our team since no opponent was available for Traiden to play from Randy’s team due matches still going and not being finished in time.Traiden never complained to me about it,was more than ok to get on the court to compete against Roman and play as many games possible with him while waiting for an opponent and (W)4-2 but the two both played very hard, were having fun playing a game they truly are passionate about, were complementary of each other, and the entire family of Roman was so appreciative for Traiden being willing to play Roman 1 on 1 for some Singles games. Traidens opponent was available very very late and they were able to get in a few games but we didn’t count them as a win or loss by either player. Traiden THANK YOU so much for being a TEAM player and being willing to play Roman!! Tennis goes far beyond wins and losses!!

***Point Totals for both teams—-WO Black-Wins@1 Singles,1 Doubles, and 8 Doubles=2 1/2 Points taken——WO White-Wins@2 Singles,2nd and 3rd Doubles=3 Points plus wins at 4th,5th,6th,and 7th Doubles plus Romans win at Singles against first available player from 4 Dubs down= 2 1/2 Points for Grand Total if 5 1/2 Points taken.(Note:No points were given to Traiden by me since no player was available in time to compete an entire match against him)***Final Score WO White 5 1/2 and WO Black 2 1/2***WO White Season Record-6-0***Great Job Everyone!!!***

****Final Results of ALL scores versus Jenison****

1 Singles-Dalton Goodwin(W)6-2(W)6-4 in straight sets to win his second match in a row!! Dalton was able to win his first set convincingly and was in a little "funk" and was in a 4-3 hole in the second set. I told Dalton "Dalton don't get down on yourself after the last game.Just put that one behind you and play under control and stay calm and run down every shot to keep the points alive. Dalton not only kept points alive but made some unbelievable "gets" on shots running off the side of the court as well as returning lob after lob running backwards and still hitting it back into his opponents court to frustrate him thinking he had the point won but Dalton won 3 straight games and won 6-4 and had several ground stroke clean winners with some extra "zip on" that his opponent simply couldn't get to in time to get a racket on!! Great Job Dalton!!

2 Singles-Reid Reimink(W)6-1(W)6-0-Reid focused on the task at hand and played like a "cool 🥒 cucumber" winning very decisively in this one with great ball control and great ball placement using the whole court and forcing his opponent to run all over the court and Reid simply wore him "out" like a pair of worn out tennis shoes that needed to be replaced.

3 Singles-Traiden Bethke(W)8-2 with ad scoring in proset #1 versus his first Jenison opponent which featured several very long rallies with some rallies going 12-15 shots.Traiden is like the Energizer Bunny who NEVER quits hustling on every single point!! In match #2 Traiden won AGAIN 8-5!! and again outlasted and out executed his opponent with better racket control and forcing his opponent to return way more shots than he wanted to!! Both of his opponents were very solid according to the Jenison coach but Traiden wasn't intimidated one bit and just did what he does best WIN!! Great Job Traiden!! Keep up the great work!!

1 Doubles-Mason Jiang Kong and Nolan Zink(W)6-1(W)6-0-These two guys are doing awesome as partners and their talent level definitely showed again in this one outhustling their opponents getting back more return shots on "sheer effort" that got back to them but putting their shots in spots neither of those two could get a racket on since they were caught flat footed and out of position several times.Great Job Mason and Nolan!!

2 Doubles-Brady Bosma and Joe Mireles(W)6-3(W)6-1-Brady and Joe pick up another "W" for WO playing very well together as partners with great communication and court awareness and have a "knack" on how to attack their opponents weak areas and rack up a lot of winning points quickly doing so.

3 Doubles-Jackson Kuyers and Andrew Van Dyke(W)6-3(W)6-4-Jackson and Andrew add another "W" for WO in this one and keep their winning streak alive. This match was struggling to watch at times because they were in a "mini funk" but I calmed the two down and just said "Just focus on controlling your shots, keep the ball in play and outshoot them on your rallies and put away your net points with authority. That they did.The "mini funk" quickly became an afterthought and they got the 6th game won in set 2 to "shut the door"on this one!! Great job Jackson and Andrew!!

4 Doubles-Kevin Maas and Joey Rakipi(W)8-0 in their first match and (W)8-0 in their second match-Kevin and Joey executed their serves and shots to perfection in both contests and "blew out" the candles before anyone had a chance to even say Happy Birthday!! Great job Kevin and Joey adding 2 more "W"s as partners!!

5 Doubles-Nash Bosma and Evan Janetzke(L)8-7 in a "hold on to the edge of your seat" nerve wracking finish that was a heart breaking finish where Jenison simply made a few more clean winners on us on a very exciting match!! However Nash and Evan bounced back with sheer determination not wanting to lose again and won 8-4 in their second match and made their ride back home much more satisfying!! Great job Nash and Evan!!

6 Doubles-Roman Monhollon and Cooper Terpstra(L)8-5 and (W)8-0-Roman and Cooper struggled in their first match and "just had one of those days" falling 8-5 but got back off the mat and had the knockout punch mentality and won BIG in their second match 8-0 to get a big "W" belt back on em again!!

7 Doubles-Liam Herweyer and Brody Ruby (W)8-7 in the THRILLER match of the day being shocked back to life after looking "flat as a pancake"and "dead in the water" trailing 6-3.I simply told them to focus on keeping every point in play and not double faulting and giving away careless points. They took it to heart and all of a sudden points started falling their way one after the other and another after another. The scorecard went from 3-6 to a 7-7 tie and in sudden death  Brody executed his serves to perfection in sudden death and Liam returned shot after shot and so did Brody. They made no mistakes in the final game and we WON!!! Talk about Big Smiles and chest pumps and a big loud YES!!! by both of them out of sheer excitement!!! It was a beautiful sight to see!! Great job Liam and Brody!!!

8 Doubles-Mike Kleinbriel and Mason Roxbury(L)8-0-Mike and Mason just had a rough one today and it just wasn't their day today.I know they'll bounce back next match!! Hang in there guys!!

9 Doubles-Geren Mathis and Joe Weimer(L)8-6-Geren and Joe continue on the path of IMPROVING winning 6 games this match and are one step closer to the doorstep of getting their first "W".Great job Mathis and Joe!!

**Scores versus Holland Christian@Holland Christian High School Tennis Courts on 4/24***

1 Singles-Dalton Goodwin(L)6-1(L)6-0
2 Singles-Reid Reimink(W)6-0,(W)6-0
3 Singles-Traiden Bethke(W)8-0 against first opponent and then (W)4-1 against HC's 2 Singles guy!! Traiden continues to IMPRESS!! and he has earned the chance to challenge  some new kids higher up the lineup with these great RESULTS to possibly move him up the lineup even more.
1 Doubles-Mason Jiang Kong and Nolan Zink(W)8-4-What was once a struggle for them "mired in the quicksand " looking at a 4-4 tie in the match they woke up and put it into overdrive and won 8-4.
2 Doubles-Joe Mireles and Brady Bosma(W)8-3-Joe and Brady got the lead early in this one, didn't mess around and finished strong.
3 Doubles-Jackson Kuyers and Andrew Van Dyke(W)8-1-Jackson and Andrew put in a "blue collar lunch bucket" effort in this one. They won convincingly and played to their level and not the opponents and made them well aware of who owned the court today! Great Job Guys!!
4 Doubles-Kevin Maas and Joey Rakipi(W)8-0-Kevin and Joey never looked back in this one and ended this match very quickly with a mindset of DOMINATE and that was very evident in this one.Never feel bad that you're a good tennis player.Play with pride knowing you're a good tennis player and play with passion and purpose!!
5 Doubles-Nash Bosma and Evan Janetzke(W)8-7 in a THRILLER!! They won the "winner takes all" 15th game in a terrific match by the HC kids too but we simply outlasted them and had a couple more clean winners and the winning last shot Evan and Nash had was unbelievable!! HC thought they had the point won but Evan extended the long rally with a deep lob and Nash then returned HC's return shot running out of bounds and then hitting a miraculous cross court winner to end the match.
6 Doubles-Brody Ruby and Liam Herweyer(W)8-3-Brody and Liam struggled early but got in a "groove"and starting getting their serves in and started getting several winners where their opponents simply couldn't get to.
7 Doubles-Roman Monhollon and Cooper Terpstra(W)9-8 in another THRILLER(HC coach and I agreed to extend this match to a "winner takes all"game whoever won 9 games first.Roman and Cooper battled "tooth and nail" in this one with Roman the "return to sender"guy and Cooper putting away multiple kill shots at the net with AUTHORITY!!   Lots of long vollies but Coop and Roman stayed calm under pressure, were patient and played under control to win this great match!!
8 Doubles-Mike Kleinbriel and Mason Roxbury(W)8-3-Mike and Mason started a little slow but found their games back and did the little things to win this one-they started getting serves in,and used the lob shot and drop shot to beat their opponents who were out of position on the court! Great job guys!!
9 Doubles-Mathis Geren and Joseph Weimer(L)8-2 but AWESOME job guys winning TWO wins and games and making HUGE strides of IMPROVEMENT!! I saw more serves land in the "box "And your rallies go back and forth more than 2 times.A few rallies went 4-6 times and that is HUGE for you guys!! Be proud about that! You guys are really trying hard to get better and I love to see that effort by you two!

Grand Haven only had 10 kids so scoring went 1-2 Singles-best of 3 sets w/10 point Super Tiebreaker if needed for 3rd set, 3rd and 4th Singles and 1st, 2nd, and 3rd doubles-8 game proset w/ads and 7 point tiebreaker If tied at 7-7 to decide match,4th doubles and any flights past that were all 6 game prosets with no ads and first team to get to 6 wins wins match.  As a team we won by the slightest of margins at 4 1/2-4 and we will take the win.  Grand Haven had a smaller team with overall better players maybe talent wise, but we didn't let that intimidate us and a few proset teams played very very well.  We were super focused and more motivated
to get to 6 wins first in the shortened 6 game proset format.  Great Job!!!
