West Ottawa Black vs. West Ottawa White
*** 1 Singles-Dalton Goodwin(L)6-1(W)7-5(L)6-3-Dalton played extremely tough with several long rallies and many unbelievable "get shots in this 3 setter that was high quality tennis fans were entertained watching despite final outcome.A rematch awaits later and I know you’ll be eager and ready to really “go after it” next time!! Great Job Dalton!!
2 Singles-Reid Reimink(W)6-1(W)6-4-Reid continues to "scrap and fight" with every opponent he's faced so far with a mindset to win whatever it takes and Reid now extends his new winning streak to 6 matches. Great Job Reid!!
1 Doubles-Jackson Kuyers and Andrew Van Dyke(L)6-2(L)6-0-Jackson and Andrew had several great rallies with some aces mixed in by Jackson and some great kill shots at the net by Andrew but the other team played very well and made very few mistakes for a hard earned victory.Still a great effort by Jackson and Andrew!
2 Doubles-Mason Jiang Kong and Nolan Zink(W)6-2(W)6-3-Mason and Nolan played very well in this one winning a lot of points on the longer rallies keeping points alive and Mason hitting several hard ground strokes for winners the other team had a hard time getting a racket on and Nolan made several DEEP returns to the baseline the other team had to run back for and had a hard time returning.Great Job Mason and Nolan!!
3 Doubles-Kevin Maas and Joey Rakipi(W)6-2(W)6-3-Kevin and Joey had an "extra bounce in their step" moving up to 3 Doubles and raised their level of play and were super focused and refused to lose in this one winning in straight sets with Kevin "money at the net" putting away shots with power and great placement and Joey ran down shot after shot at the baseline to extend rallies and force the other team to return more shots than they wanted to.Great Job Kevin and Joey!!
4 Doubles-Brady Bosma and Joe Mireles-(W)8-5-Brady and Joe have great attitudes and never complain where they are in the lineup, continue to play extremely hard, and never quit, and their effort was a Gold Medal 🥇 one AGAIN getting another W for WO White! Way to go Brady and Joe!!
5 Doubles-Nash Bosma and Evan Janetzke(W)8-2-Nash and Evan started slow in this one with it knotted at 2-2 but after a brief conversation with them on a changeover they were regrouped and refocused and re-energized and started played high quality tennis eliminating double faults, and made a huge positive change from "airmailing shots" to "pinpointing their shots" and keeping them in play.Great bounce back efforts Nash and Evan!!
6 Doubles-Brody Ruby and Liam Herweyer(W)8-6-Brody and Liam won a very exciting close match and in the last four games they played their level of focus and wanting to win points went "up a notch". Liam ran down several deep returns keeping points alive and Brody backed Liam up by making several key cross court winners from the middle of their court and placing his returns in "no mans land" where their opponents simply were not able to get to and get a racket on.Great "W" Brody and Liam to not get nervous and rattled but to remain calm and focused and executing great shots!!
7 Doubles-Mike Kleinbriel and Mason Roxbury(W)8-2-Mike and Mason were feeling the "blues" last match after losing 8-0 but they decided maybe their opponent needed to “feel the blues” in this one and they played this match with much more purpose and passion winning 8-2 and replaced that “deflated look”with an “inflated look” like the balloon full of helium once again!! Great job Mike and Mason!!
8 Doubles-Mathis Geren and Joe Weimer(L)8-2-Geren and Joe continue to find ways to WIN some games in their matches despite not winning the match and that isn’t what tennis is ALL about. I get more excited about kids who show a willingness to WANT to improve and truly get BETTER as tennis players and these two guys continue to do that EVERY practice and EVERY match!! Great job Geren and Mathis!! *** And in a couple other singles matches Randy and I ok’d together as coaches since they were short a player and we were missing a player Roman Monhollon(W)8–1 against one of Randy’s players and later on I asked Traiden if he’d be willing to play Roman on our team since no opponent was available for Traiden to play from Randy’s team due matches still going and not being finished in time.Traiden never complained to me about it,was more than ok to get on the court to compete against Roman and play as many games possible with him while waiting for an opponent and (W)4-2 but the two both played very hard, were having fun playing a game they truly are passionate about, were complementary of each other, and the entire family of Roman was so appreciative for Traiden being willing to play Roman 1 on 1 for some Singles games. Traidens opponent was available very very late and they were able to get in a few games but we didn’t count them as a win or loss by either player. Traiden THANK YOU so much for being a TEAM player and being willing to play Roman!! Tennis goes far beyond wins and losses!!
