Boys, I knew both of our middle school teams were doing great, but you guys are above and beyond my expectations. Let me try and put it into perspective. First off, I've been the Men's Varsity coach here for 7 years now. Every year they have won either the conference or regional title, but they almost always win both. You guys are playing at a higher level than any of those teams did when they were in middle school.
I was impressed by many things I saw today, here were a few:
1. Competitiveness - People were out there grinding. So many times, it looked like there was NO WAY you were going to get a ball back, but you'd somehow keep that point going. I love coaching teams that despise losing.
2. Sportsmanship - Just to give an example, I saw Travis playing Sam at 5-5 in the first set. Sam won a terrifically difficult point, hitting a winner past Travis. Travis immediately congratulated Sam on the shot. On the very next point, Travis won a long rally, and Sam shouted out nice shot to Travis. I saw stuff like that all over the place today. Pretty sweet.
3. Talent - All seven of the courts were filled with good players on BOTH sides of the net...you NEVER see that in middle school tennis. The 5th doubles match looked like it should be a 1st doubles match!!! In high school varsity tennis, there are four singles spots and four doubles spots, and they all count for 1 point each. That's why it's so crucial to have LOTS of great players...the 12th best player is just as important as the best player.
Keep working hard and improving. If you guys stick together, we will have some fun when high school rolls around soon! -Coach Schwallier
Here are some notes from Coach Curtin: HEY GUYS!!! Really good job today! I know Pete was Super Excited at all the talent shown on the court today!! W.O. Tennis at it's best! We truly have some wonderful talent on both teams! You should be very proud of your improvement in such a short time.
Truly great points, tough matches today, remember to be aggressive at the net, and get that first serve in!
Reminder, next week Mon, Tues we are inside at Mac Bay NO PRACTICE Wed, Thurs, FRI Away match
at Grand Haven White Pines Middle.
Have a great Weekend!

Here are some notes from Coach Dykens: Comments-Great Job today! Way to play hard, improving your games, not getting rattled when trailing in your match, and continuing to battle to get out of a deficits when you were trailing in your match and needing to come from behind,a lot LESS double faults and getting your serves IN, and especially a lot of great hustle plays and placing the ball in tough spots for your opponent to try to return!
