I am excited to announce that the Men's Varsity Tennis Team will be getting a new assistant coach this fall! West Ottawa Alumni Mark VanderStoep will be assisting with the Men's Program going forward. Coach VanderStoep will be a FANTASTIC addition to our coaching staff. As a player for West Ottawa, Mark still holds single season wins records at multiple flights (in singles) and longest win streak records at multiple flights (in both singles & doubles).
After graduating from WO, Coach VanderStoep went on to have a VERY successful career playing tennis at Hope College. During his senior year, he played 1 singles and 1 doubles at Hope. Coach Vanderstoep is a three time MIAA All Conference Team member, two time MIAA player of the week, and one time Central Region player of the week. He was the 2016 Western Michigan qualifier sportsmanship winner and a Western Michigan team cup representative.
His best career win is beating Western Michigan University’s #1 doubles team, who at the time were the #46th nationally ranked division 1 doubles team.
Coach VanderStoep brings a great deal of knowledge and high level playing experience to our program. I couldn't be more excited to have him working with our players. I know they are going to be excited to work with him and I am happy to have him as my assistant going forward. It's going to be a lot of fun this fall!
