These are exactly the kinds of pictures I was hoping for when I put out my appeal for photos last night. Well done Mary Westenbroek, Kim Valentine, and Amy Karp. Girls, you were fantastic today. Thank you so much for all of your hard work and your great attitudes. A special shout out to Lauren Valentine, Hannah Karp, and Chloe Karp on winning the 1 Doubles and 1 Singles Flights. Shout out to EVERYONE ELSE on taking flight runner up. Those individuals are:

A little perspective to show how strong of a performance we put up against Holland Christian:

Last Year Holland Christian placed 4th at the Division 3 State Finals
The senior who Kayla was going toe-to-toe with lost in a close 3 setter in the semifinals at the State Finals last year.
The girls that Lauren Valentine and Hannah Karp BEAT were state semifinalists at 4 singles and quarterfinalists at 1 doubles last year.

This is good news, especially considering that we are 1.2 years younger.

I'm probably most impressed with your maturity and kindness though. On the court you are so tough, but that doesn't stop you from being polite and sportsmanlike at the same time. It's just a lot of fun to be coaching all of you right now. I'm looking forward to seeing you all at practice on Monday. Have a great weekend, and congrats again on a good day.

Tuesday Practice - Outdoors After School

Players, we are going to attempt an after school practice outside tomorrow. Here's the details:

Where: Players who were with Coach Schwallier/Metz today go to South Courts.
Players who were with Coach Gahan/Richmond today will go to North.
When: You will be on court ready to play at 3:00pm. We will finish at 5pm.
If it rains: check your email, we will do something, and I'll let you know the plan.
Ground rules for tomorrow: Today we went over some basic expectations. You did a great job with them today, here's a refresher so you do just as well tomorrow:

We start on time(your responsibility), we end on time (my responsibility).
When we need to get some where, we are jogging or running. Period.
Before you leave, you always come and shake my hand. You will thank me for coaching, and I will thank you for playing and for all your hard work....every day.

My thoughts on today: You've put in more collective hours on court in the last 12 months than any girls team I've ever coached in a 12 month time span. It showed. You girls are talented, and you are just going to get better if you keep this time commitment up. Looking forward to seeing what you can do this season.

Tryout Information for Monday

Hi Parents and Players,

We are breaking into two groups tomorrow for tryouts. Some of you will tryout before school at MVP, and the rest of you will tryout after school, either outside or at MVP. I SENT YOU AN EMIAL LETTING YOU KNOW WHETHER YOU ARE BEFORE OR AFTER SCHOOL. Check your email and all the details will be there for you. When you signed up for the team, you put down both your email and your parents email. Those are the emails I sent it to. If you didn't receive an email, reply to me at [email protected], and I'll fill you in.

Tomorrow is going to be a lot of fun, I cant wait to see everyone!!! -Coach Schwallier

Tennis Meeting For Players On Monday, March 7

Hi Players and Parents,

On Monday we will hold a brief tennis meeting after school for all high school girls tennis players. Below are the details and the purpose of the meeting:

Details:
Where: North A229 (Mr. Schwallier's Classroom)
Date: Monday, March 7
Time: After school till 3:30pm

What is the purpose of the meeting:

Give athletes the game plan if the courts are playable on March 14.
Give athletes the game plan if the courts are not playable on March 14.
Allow players to try on the new Varsity Warmups to get a feel for what sizes I may need to be ordering for the Spring...woo hoo!!!
Explain what the tryout process will look like (both for determining who is on varsity, but also for determining the initial positions of the JV team).
Let players know whether or not their physical is on file.
Players get a chance to meet the coaching staff.
Players get a chance to ask questions.

Some good pieces of news that I can share:

Up until a week ago, it looked like we would have to share the high school courts with the middle school teams due to construction. This is no longer the case. The Varsity will have full use of the South Courts, and the Junior Varsity will have the full use of the North courts as we usually do.
The weather is supposed to be in the 50's and rainy next week. That's good news for us, because it makes it very likely that there will be NO SNOW on the courts on March 14. I believe there is at least a 50% chance we get to start out season outside, but we will see.

Note to Parents:

Amy Karp [email protected] and Kim Valentine [email protected] are our Varsity Team moms. They have been around our tennis program for a long time now and are awesome/fun people. If you have questions that would be best answered by a parent, shoot them an email.
If you have a question that is best answered by a coach, shoot me an email by replying to this message.
