*********STATE DRAWS ARE POSTED - CLICK TO VIEW *********

First of all, great job to all the players at the Regional.  With our 1st place finish, West Ottawa Tennis has now won the Regional Championship nine of the last ten years.  A banner will be going up soon in the Gym, and you are the reason why.  Thanks for all the hard work you put in this year.  All of you involved know that these things don't just happen.  It was the result of a lot of hard work, and often times even frustration.  But it's the difficult things in life that are the coolest, and what you did this year was awesome.

Ok, now it's time to have fun and enjoy this week.  Our two remaining things on the schedule are the State Finals Week, followed by the Tennis Banquet.  Here's the banquet information, followed by our schedule for the upcoming week:

Banquet:
Date: Tuesday, October 22
Time: 6:30 PM
Location: LGI Room at HS North (this is a change, so spread the word)
What to bring: Players, bring your uniform...no exceptions...bring it all:)
Food to bring for Banquet:
Varsity players will bring appetizers to share
JV players please bring a dessert &  juice or a 2 liter to share

This Week's Varsity Tennis Schedule:
Monday - 3:00-5:00 PM - Wooden Tennis Racket Tournament.  This will be lead by the captains.  The Monday after Regionals I have a meeting to discuss All-Conference medals with the OK-Red coaches.  I will leave 15 Wooden Rackets with the captains.  It is my expectation that you bring your A-game, because this is your chance to see what tennis felt like in the 1970's!!!

Tuesday - 3:00-5:30PM - Scrimmage with Holland Christian at Home.  Over the past week our Doubles players have suddenly gotten a TON better.  I'm curious to see how you do against HC this time around.  They will be at our place at about 3:30, and we will play them for a couple hours, then head home.

Wednesday - Last Practice of the year at the WO courts...let's make it a good one.

Thursday - Depart for the State Finals
10:00am - Players dismissed from class.
10:15am - Meet at Athletic Office.
10:30am - Players depart for Midland (Parents often come to the athletic office to take pictures, and that is absolutely fine).
2:30pm  - Arrive in Midland and practice at the Midland Community Tennis Center.
4:00pm - Check into Spring Hill Suites.
6:30pm - Dinner/hang out at the Mall.
9:00pm - Team Meeting to get pumped up for State Finals
9:30pm - Go to your rooms and don't do anything stupid.

Friday/Saturday - MHSAA State Finals
6:00am - Breakfast
7:00am - Warmup
8:00am - Play begins
We will play until the either every player has won a State Title or until they have been eliminated. If every player is eliminated before the semi-finals, then we head home that night.  However, if any person reaches the Semis, we will spend Friday night in the hotel, and come home Saturday after the conclusion of the tournament.  So, either we get home very, very late on Friday night, or Saturday afternoon.  (Note: regardless of whether or not we make it to the 2nd day, Will Davis will be spending the night with a couple players to watch the whole tournament.  If you are interested in this contact Will Davis).

The Monday after the State Finals - What are you waiting for...get your off-season training going!!!  Players will be graduating and new spots will be opening up.  See how many players on the roster you can jump throughout the off-season.  See how high you can get your USTA ranking.  Be the Most Improved Player on the team over the next year.  Make some new goals, create a plan, and let the fun begin all over again:)  Let's get to work West Ottawa!

Conference Tournament Recap and Schedule for Next Week

OK-Red Tournament - Boys, thank you for a very good day.  Joe and Mark, your goal was to win your flight, and you made that happen, so congratulations.  Also, several players were able to beat people whom they previously lost to:

Nick Schnobel, well done on a solid win with Mark.  Nick Valentine, your match against DJ was excellent, and you pushed Zach in a way that you have not previously.  And 4th doubles, your win against Rockford at the end of the day was easily your most impressive of the season.  For those who are not aware, they lost the first set 7-5, then won 6-0, 6-1.

Congratulations to Grandville on their great season.  The reality is that they showed through both the duel season and the tournament that they deserve the title this year.  That being said, we were right there with them.  We tied them in the duel, and were 3 points short at the Tournament.  Very little separates us, and it will set up for a battle at Regionals.  Below are the complete results of the OK-Red this Fall:

Snack and Driver information: Check Parent Central on the far right tab.

In case of Rain:  We will likely go to Rockford regardless of whether it's wet or dry, so players should plan on heading out there regardless.  If it rains out, we typically don't play indoors for this event.  Instead, we generally play the tournament on the following Monday, and the players are excused from school.  This has happened once since I began coaching, and it was last year.  Players should talk to their teachers on Friday and see if there's anything extra they can grab to work on in the event that this happens (I will bring this up with them at practice today).

Ok, that's what I have so far.  If more information becomes available to me I'll pass it along.  See you soon!
