The Sentinel announced the All Area tennis team today.
The following were selected All-Area First Team:
Nick Schnobel (Junior at 1st Singles)
Joe Miller (Junior at 3rd Singles)
Mark VanderStoep (Junior at 4th Singles)
Hugh Davis (Junior at 3rd Doubles)
Kyle Maas (Sophomore at 3rd Doubles)
The following were selected All-Area Second Team:
Nick Valentine (Senior at 2nd Singles)
Andy Radke (Senior at 1st Doubles)
Nick Govert (Junior at 1st Doubles)
And Finally, the 2013 Holland Sentinel Tennis Player of the Year: Nick Schnobel
Which Players Get Chosen:
1. The player they feel had the best year at a flight gets 1st team.
2. The player they feel had the 2nd best year at a flight gets 2nd team.
3. If there are additional 1 singles player that they feel are deserving, they are also named
2nd team.
4. The player/flight they feel is most deserving is named Holland Sentinel Player of the Year.
How They Rank The Players At Each Flight: Understand the importance of the Holland Christian match each year for this award. Ourselves and HC are traditionally the two strongest teams in the area. If you want to be first team, beating them is the best way to do it. When Dan D'Adonna sends me the All Area email each year, this is what he wants to know, in order of importance:
#1 What were your results against local teams (HC, Holl, ZW, ZE, Ham)?
#2 What place did the flight take at Conference, Regionals, and States?
#3 What other quality wins does your player have?
#4 What is the player's record? (This is least important, because the Sentinel understands
that different schools have easier or harder schedules, which affects overall record)
