The Women's Season is Right Around the Corner!

Hey Girls,

The season is just under two months away, so keep practicing and working hard.  The Conference and Region will be wide open this year.  We graduated several talented players, but so did Hudsonville, Rockford, and Grandville.  To win the Conference and Regional Titles, our returning players must work harder than theirs.  So far I believe we have been doing this.  It looks like we've had more players in the clubs this winter than any year I've coached.  Many of you are  participating in drills, getting private instruction, playing match play on weekends, and are entering into USTA tournaments.  I want to get everyone used to posting on the blog so we can communicate better, so please post a comment on this thread.  Here's what I want you to include:

1.  What you have been doing this Winter to get ready for the season?
2.  What team on the schedule do you want to beat the most?
3.  Make sure you put your name at the end of the post so we know who's posting!
(Parents, feel free to post something too so I know you've seen the schedule/calendar)

A schedule, calendar, and tryout information are now posted under "Women's Varsity".  We have added a match with Forest Hills Eastern this year to increase the strength of our schedule.  Also, this year's West Ottawa Invitational will be St. Joseph, Holland, Holland Christian, and ourselves.  St. Joseph has taken the place of Zeeland West.  Again, this will give us a more challenging opponent.  Other than that, the schedule is very similar to last year.

Call or text me anytime with questions about the season,

Coach Schwallier

Hey Girls, I'll make the first post to get things started. This winter I've gotten indoors to hit with several of you, and I've been out to many of the USTA events that you participated in. I've put in some work to get this website going, and that's been a lot of fun too. I've been working to get a quality JV coach to replace Coach McConnell, and we will have a very good one in Coach Mike Floch.

Ok, which team do I want to beat the most this year? I'm going to say Hudsonville, since we haven't beaten them in a few years. Rockford is right up there though, I always like getting that win:)

Alright, your turn girls,

-Coach Schwallier

Thanks for getting the information out and for getting the girls out to play. Saw both V and JV schedules at wopanthers, but didn't see any tryout information. Looked under all 4 links for tennis.

Always want WO to beat Rockford or EK.

Hi Julia,

"Tryout Information" is the the first tab under Women's Varsity and Girls JV. It's right above the "Schedule / Calendar" tab. Good luck and let me know if you are still having trouble.

Hey! This winter I've been playing in 2-3 drills a week at Dewitt and I've been getting a private about monthly. I've also been playing in USTA tournaments. I truly enjoy playing how much I do and am looking forward to season. The team I want us to beat the most this season would be a toss up between Hudsonville and Rockford, both tough teams. I would also like to see West Ottawa take Conference and Regional titles.

I'm so looking forward to this season! I've been playing at MVP over the winter and hitting here and there with the family. With all of these other girls playing over the off season means we'll be the domination station! Woohoo

I forgot to say who I want to beat. HUDSONVILLE. Me & Kels beat them once last season and then lost to them in Conference & Regional championships so we are back for revenge against their team :)

Loving all the comments girls. I knew you were all playing, but had now idea you were playing this often. I've always had a few girls go out and play lots of tennis, but to have basically a whole team playing multiple times a week...this is new for us.

Also, just wanted to let you all know that we may be adding a tournament at East Grand Rapids the Saturday before the Conference Finals. If you are all going to work this hard, we might as well go and play all the best teams in West Michigan. I will keep you posted when I know for sure whether or not the tournament is a go.

Keep working hard girls, I am expecting big things!

hey, I am a little confused. Are the tryouts at MVP just for girls planning on varsity, or for everyone?
Thanks, Annika
